You do not need a referral from your GP or other practitioner to see a Clinical Psychologist. You can of course get a referral if:
- You would like to claim a Medicare rebate
- You are referred through Defence or the Department of Veteran Affairs
Medicare Rebates
Under the Better Access Scheme, individuals experiencing mental health difficulties are currently eligible for rebates of $145.25 per appointment for up to ten consultations per calendar year for individual therapy.
At RM Psychology, we can process your Medicare rebate following payment for you.
To access the Medicare rebates, please book an appointment with your GP, who will provide a Mental Health Care Plan. This initial referral approves Medicare rebates for six consultations. Following this, a Mental Health Care Plan review with your GP is required for the Medicare rebate for the remaining four consultations.
Other eligible individuals may be able to obtain Medicare rebates for consultations through a different referral from their GP, such as a Chronic Disease Management Plan or Eating Disorder Treatment Program.
Private Health Fund
Depending on your level of cover, most private health funds offer rebates for psychological services. We will provide an invoice with receipt of payment for you to claim a rebate from your private health fund.
DVA
Under the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, former serving members experiencing mental health difficulties can access psychological support if they hold a white or gold card and the condition is accepted. To access this, please book an appointment with your GP, who will provide a referral. The referral provides up to twelve consultations and is valid for one year. Following this, a treatment cycle review with your GP is required for a new referral. Veterans can have as many referrals approving up to twelve consultations at a time as required.

Cancellation Fees and Policy
Bookings can be made online, over the phone or via email. Please contact us directly via phone or email to change or cancel an appointment. We appreciate as much notice as possible. A late cancellation fee may be charged if you cancel your appointment with less than 24 hours notice, or do not attend an appointment.
